Well.........
That was just phenomenal.
To give you a brief similarity index: This is like Breakfast Club, meets Guardians of the Galaxy meets Six of Crows fam.
This story grabs you from the very first page. As someone who reads ALOT this is quite rare for me. It’s rare that I am able to become so invested from the very first page and this book did no disappoint. I usually do reviews with spoilers, but since this amazing novel comes out in just few days I thought no, I will give you a happy non-free spoiler review so that those of you who are unsure if you want to pick this up can determine it for yourselves.
If you loved the Illuminae Files, you will enjoy this 1000000x more. This story is so captivating and it’s clear that the science terminology and research invested in this story is used to paint such vivid images of these characters and the world around them. The world building in itself is phenomenal and the fascination I had with space and time had me glued to the page.
Now the characters. Guys, I'm telling you! All the banter you know and love from Illuminae has been reworked and has come to hit us full force. The friendships and the just outright chemistry between these characters will have you grinning along as you read. That is a promise. You will fall in love with each and every characters quirks and disregard for authority (a big one). Aurora will captivate you and will have you urging to see what's on the next page.
Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff have once again created a squad, for those who have yet to find theirs. You feel like these characters are your family, and you fear and triumph alongside them. I laughed ( a hell of a lot) and yes dammit, this would not be the aussie authors we love if they didn’t make us cry while simultaneously ripping our hearts out.
Please read this book. It’s one you will not regret!
Thank you so much Allen & Unwin for sending me an Advanced Readers Copy of one of my most anticipated books of the year. This in no way influenced my opinion of the book
